Not only does The Futon Shop manufacture all their products on American soil in San Francisco California, but they try to avoid the use of flame retardants whenever possible. Virgin wool is a natural fire retardant. They use it as a barrier fabric whenever possible.

We have designed many types of mattresses for every type of sleeper.Â
- Mattress designed for an every night sleep surface on a platform bed frame. This mattress will not bend on a futon sofa bed.
- Hybrid Mattress designed for use on both platform bed frames and futon sofa beds.
- Mattress designed for everyday use on a futon frame. Not recommended for every night sleep.

For the first few months of use, we recommend you rotate your mattress head to toe and flip it every time you change your sheets to ensure the organic fibers settle evenly. After six months, you can rotate your mattress once per month and flip it every few months.Â

Our mattresses are designed to last anywhere from 5 to 25 years depending on the ingredients inside your mattress and how well you care for your mattress.

You do not need box springs for any of our mattresses. Most of our mattresses are designed to work on a slatted platform bed as well as a convertible futon sofa bed frame. If you would like a box spring we have designed an organic all natural coconut foundation.

All manufactured products have odors based on their components. American Wool sometimes has a fresh odor. Our natural and organic materials have not been treated with toxic chemicals.Â
The ingredients may contain a faint odor. You will find the scent dissipates over the course of a few weeks. Natural Latex does have a slight odor as well.

Long fiber wool and cotton resist forming balls or lumps and give futons a longer life expectancy. Dipping or lumping is generally caused by uneven wear on the mattress. By following the flip and rotation instructions. You will ensure that your mattress does not experience dipping or lumping.
