  • Hand Rubbed Linseed Oil Finish

    Hand Rubbed Linseed Oil Finish

Linseed oil is extracted from flax seed and is one of the most useful natural oils. Flax seed dates back to 3000 BCE, when Emperor Charlemagne of Babylon believed in its health benefits and thus required his empire to consume it in their daily diets. It is used as a preservative for wood, concrete, and an ingredient in paints, varnishes, and stains.

As if that wasn't enough, it is also used in soaps, inks, and in the production of linoleum. Before the invention of modern preservatives and synthetics, flax-seed was commonly used as a stand-alone preservative for wood, natural (hemp) rope, and masonry, as a conditioner for natural boar's hair paint brushes, and as an additive for oil paints.

It was also valuable inside as a furniture finish and for wood floors. It is the most natural preservative and moisturizer for wood products that is 100% natural and chemical free.

  • Mortise And Tenon Joint

    Mortise And Tenon Joint

In the construction of Amish futon frames, the parts are inserted into each other using mortise and tenon joints. The arms and legs are then bolted to a v-groove corner block. Adding yet more strength the v-groove corner block is then glued with non toxic water based glue into place. We see this same level of durable construction used in the creation of all Amish chairs and tables which also use mortise and tenon joints.

  • Eco-Friendly

    Eco-Friendly

The Amish do not manufacture their furniture using electricity. Not only does this give their furniture a unique and beautiful look, but it also means there is less pollution in the manufacturing process.

By design, Amish furniture is eco-friendly. The production of our furniture does not lead to deforestation or the use of toxic chemicals such as formaldehyde and flame retardants that can pollute our planet and our homes.

  • Lower Your Carbon Footprint

    Lower Your Carbon Footprint

The Amish harvest local woods such as beautiful oaks and cherry. Since materials are harvested locally, those who opt for our furniture can do so with the knowledge that the wood used in the creation of their furniture has not traveled thousands of miles and released a great deal of carbon in the process.
