Coconut - A Sustainable Resource In Mattress Construction

Sleeping on this coconut coir mattress not only feels great, but also reduces your exposure to harsh chemicals found in many mattresses on the market today. This healthy sleep surface is completely free of chemicals and provides superior comfort and durability. The materials used in our Coconut Coir Mattresses are from renewable and sustainable resources - good for you and beneficial for the environment.

Coconut - A Sustainable Resource In Mattress Construction

Coconut Coir does not grow from trees in flat batting ready for your new mattress. Several steps are needed to get the coir from the coconut. First, the coconut is harvested from certified organic coconut trees, where the coconut oil has been separated from the inner nut, which leaves the remaining fibers. These coconut fibers are then washed with water, combed for straightening then dried. The coconut coir is then woven into thick stands of fiber rope. This is what gives the coconut its spring-like feature.

After the coconut is woven into rope, it is layered and rubberized with liquid natural organic latex milk. The layers are then steamed with hot water to press flat to allow the latex milk to ooze through the core and fortify each stand of coconut. Coconut core can be acquired in different densities just like latex from 65-95. Most common is 75-85 kg/m3 density which is equivalent to firm latex.

Coconut Coir mattresses offer firmer support than any other material used in mattress manufacturing today. Coconut Coir infused with liquid latex offers you bounce (like a metal spring) while supporting body weight up to 400 lbs. with durable firm even support. Water (moisture) travels through the breathable layers of coconut coir allowing a cool and restful sleep. Coconut naturally repels germs, insects, bed bugs as well as moisture build up.

The Coir fibers are resistant to heat and repels moisture, provide good ventilation, are mold and mildew resistant proof, naturally flame retardant, and an excellent insulator. The all natural coconut coir fibers are sprayed with natural latex to bond the fibers together creating firm sheets that when combined with layers of wool and natural Dunlop Latex create a remarkably comfortable and durable mattress.
