What Are Traditional Mattress / Futon Mattress Sizes?

Mattress sizes are made in the exact same dimensions as quality futons. The sizes are the same. Although mattresses and futons can be made in custom sizes, there are standards for all American mattresses and futons. Although the depth can change from 5 to 20 inches the length and width are universal. This way a mattress or a futon can be placed on any standard platform bed. cot size mattresses and futons are generally 32 inches wide by 75 inches long. Twin size mattresses and futons are 39 inches wide by 75 inches long. A twin extra long is the width of a twin and the length of a queen, 39 inches wide and 80 inches longs longs.

Queen and king futons are less common than full and twin futons since they are not often used as the primary mattress in a home. Whether you're in the market for a brand-new futon or just want to replace the cover or mattress pad, knowing the exact dimensions of your current futon is essential.

Mattress Standard Dimension Guide

Size DIMENSIONS
Twin 39” x 75”
Twin XL 39” x 79”
Full 54” x 75”
Full XL 54” x 79”
Queen 60” x 80”

Eastern King 76” x 80”

Twin Futon

The smallest futon size available is a twin. It's the same size as a standard twin bed, so it can comfortably support either a child or an individual adult. But because of their unique design, futons are easier to move about.

A twin futon size mattresses is easy to transport to the great outdoors for a camping weekend. You can also use it to convert your child's room, if you have one, into second sleeping quarters.

A futon of this size is best used as a means to save floor space. By unfolding, others can be turned from a chair into a bed for one person, but only some models can do this.

It fulfills the roles of space-saver and cost-cutter well.

Full Futon

When you hear the term "futon”, this is the size of the futon that comes to mind. Most sofas and loveseats may be folded down to a size suitable for storage. Full-size futon mattresses are the most common kind you'll find in stores and online, and there's a good reason for that: They're the best balance between cost and convenience.

Full or double-size mattresses and futons are 54 inches wide and 75 inches long. Of course, an extra-long full/double is 54 inches wide and 80 inches long.

These are not only comfortable for two people but also do double duty as a sofa or loveseat for visitors.

Queen Futon

The futon is yet another standard option. This futon is about the same size as a standard Queen-sized bed and can fit two adults of any size.

The standard dimensions for a queen bed are 60 inches in width and 80 inches in length. A queen-sized bed can fit even the tallest sleepers and couples while collapsing to the size of a standard couch during the day.

A Queen futon mattress size is a great way to make a flexible guest bed or a permanent bedroom for a guest. A futon cotton mattress, for example, is comfortable for sleeping on and sitting on. Since it can be rolled up and stashed, it's a wonderful choice for those who don' t have a dedicated sleeping area but still value efficiency.

King Futon

You can find king-size futon mattresses, but they are not as common as standard or queen-sized ones. When it comes to mattress size, futons usually only go up to the king size and don't have anything bigger, like a California king-size mattress, very often.

California king-size mattresses or futons are 72 inches wide and 84 inches long. Eastern or standard king-size mattresses or futons are wider than California kings and the same length as a queen, 76 inches wide and 80 inches long.

Most people are hesitant to buy such a large second mattress because futons aren't typically the main mattress in a home. These chemical-free mattresses are very spacious, less common, and often pricey.

Advantages of Using Futons

Your house might benefit from having a futon for a variety of reasons. First, a futon is a good choice for people who often have friends or family stay the night. Since futons don't take up much area, you may easily host overnight visitors without worrying about running out of space.

Futon beds are convenient because they easily move and are set up quickly. This is because they are made of lightweight materials. Getting a futon instead of a new mattress, base, and bed frame might save you time and effort

But remember that when it comes to futons and their frames, you get what you pay for. So don't be shocked if a low-quality futon causes discomfort for you or your visitors. Futon beds are great for occasional use, but if you want to use yours often, you should either spend the money on a high-quality, supportive one or get a new mattress.
