Certified Organic cotton, American grown Virgin Wool, chemically free Dunlap Latex, soy-based foams, and all our inner springs are made from recycle steel right here in the US. Besides wanting the benefits of organic’s for the planet and your family, we have found when replacing or buying a new mattress most people are looking a few simple things:
Comfort :Our long soft and silky USDA certified Organic Cotton is designed to give you a soft pillow-like feeling. We do not want to lose support so we compress our cotton down to just the right compression to maintain softness yet offer support.. Adding Virgin Wool give a cushier and softer feel as the wool is light, fluffy and the fiber is crimped therefore it acts like a spring. We use naturally long crimp wool grown in the United States, so we do not have to artificially crimp our woolen fibers as they do with New Zealand wool. Using our GOTS Certified Organic Cotton mattress protectors will give the the extra softness and pure protection that you deserve.
Support 100% pure Dunlap Latex in medium to extra firm depending on the models. Only Dunlap pure latex can give you densities of 80-100. We do not use Talalay Latex because it is much softer then Dunlap processed latex and can never reach the extra firm densities that give the most support for the best mattresses made today. Natural Latex is a very heavy, as well as expensive so for those who need a light mattress or less expensive mattress we offer soy-based foams, and soy-based memory foams in a variety of densities as an alternative.
Durability All of our quality ingredients make superior mattresses that should last 10 years or more. Some of the durability is individual based on your personal body type and weight. For heavier 250 lbs person and up our Serenity or Eternity latex mattresses should support your body weight, evenly and comfortably with no break down, dipping or lumping. For everyone else the choices are endless.
No motion transfer What makes motion transfer from one side of the bed to the other is bouncy innersprings. In our innerspring Organic Collection we only use pocketed coils. These pocketed coils reduce motion transfer because our pocket coils are not attached together. Each pocket coil is dropped into a pocket so if you bounce on one coil the next row does not move. Or if you chose one of our mattresses without an innerspring there in no motion transfer at all.
Natural Sleep There is nothing comparable to organic products. As an active member of the Organic Trade Association we care about our planet earth and you! We go out of our way to source and use American grown Organic cotton and wool in our mattresses and to support American farmers. Organic agriculture protects the health of people and the planet by reducing the overall exposure to toxic chemicals from synthetic pesticides that can end up in the ground, air, water and food supply, and that are associated with health consequences, from asthma to cancer. Because organic agriculture doesn’t use toxic and persistent pesticides, choosing organic products is an easy way to help protect yourself. Organic growers use biological and cultural practices as their first line of defense against pests. Methods include crop rotation, the selection of resistant varieties, nutrient and water management, the provision of habitat for the natural enemies of pests, and release of beneficial organisms to protect crops from damage. Also our mattresses use natural, breathable materials like 100% natural dunlap latex rubber , soy-based foams. All of our materials are eco-certified free of toxic chemicals and off-gassing. We do use borate in our mattresses, to meet the federal law for flammability and if you want a mattress made without borate, just ask us and we will make it for you, simple supply us with a note from your doctor or chiropractors.

Founded in 1976, The Futon Shop has been making premium mattresses for futon sofa beds and sofa sleepers for more than 30 years now. Back when we started, not many people were concerned about being "eco-friendly", but from the very beginning, The Futon Shop was dedicated to making all natural and organic futons & bedding. Of course, back then we were just hippies who wanted to make futon mattresses out of natural ingredients and not sleep on chemicals, but since then we have embraced the pursuit of the truly carbon neutral futon sofa bed.
