Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC's) are a chemicals that are released into the air as gasses from solids and liquids. Some have long term and short term health effects according to the EPA. A large source of the problem is furniture, especially mattresses located in the safety of ones bedroom. The off-gassed chemicals remain inside the room and is breathed in over the lifespan of the mattress causing lasting effects. VOCS in bedroom furniture, such as platform beds, dresser's, nightstands, has been found to be in the glues and paints of and bed frames and sofa beds, in pesticides in cotton that is not organic, and in many products used in furnishings.

According to the EPA, research has shown VOCS effect eye, nose, and throat irritation, leading to headaches, loss of coordination, nausea, damage to the liver, kidney, and central nervous system. With large doses of poisons from VOCs and long term ingestion of the toxins, the worse the reaction, with such problems as; eye problems, dizziness, visual problems, and so on. The bedroom should be a safe, toxic free room where one can sleep on a natural platform bed frame with an organic cotton mattress and not worry about any outside dangerous factors. No one should have to think or worry about off-gassing from their bed. What does that mean? That means no off-gassing.
